The ATO has announced that in order for it to properly prepare for the upcoming Tax Time, it is planning to conduct a series of system outages over June. So get out your diary and take note of the following dates and times. ATO planning system outages “to prepare for tax time”
Most of the ATO’s systems will be unavailable from 11.30pm Friday 23 June until 7.00am Monday 26 June (AEST). During this time the electronic lodgment service (ELS) will only accept lodgments. Processing of returns and forms will resume from 26 June.
The ATO warns that if practitioners are planning to use the ELS during the outage, you will need to download all required information and reports from the portal (pre-fill) and ELS one to two days before the outage starts.
FBT lodgment due date The above outage coincides with the Sunday 25 June lodgment due date for the 2017 fringe benefits tax (FBT) annual return for tax agents who lodge electronically. As this date falls on Sunday, the lodgment due date will be Monday 26 June.
All FBT returns for 2017 can only be lodged electronically through the practitioner lodgment service (PLS). If practitioners experience difficulties due to systems issues that prevent you from lodging on time, the ATO advises that you can apply for a PLS deferral.
