The ATO has recently advised that when a practitioner firm’s software is ready to make a successful transition to the practitioner lodgment service (PLS), there are some checks practitioners should first make.
Desktop software The ATO advise that your AUSkey credentials must be up-to-date, and lodgment permissions assigned to you and your staff, before using the PLS. It says that if lodgment permissions are not assigned, you will not be able to lodge using the PLS.
To give your staff access to the clients of your registered agent number, you need to authorise their AUSkey in Access Manager and give them the necessary permissions. If you have more than one registered agent number, you can assign a user with multiple agent numbers.
ATO guidance on doing this, with screenshots, can be found on this ATO webpage. There is also an instructional video (just over 2 minutes).
Cloud-based software If you use online (cloud-based) software, you do not need to check your permissions in Access Manager to use the PLS. Instead, you will need to notify the ATO of your hosted SBR software service (also has screenshots).
The ATO has also provided a short (this one’s less than 2 minutes) video on how practitioners should go about notifying it.
