Budgeting tools from ASIC for your clients’ personal finances

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has launched a package of free online budgeting tools for individual taxpayers to help with managing personal finances. Budgeting tools from ASIC for your clients’ personal finances Announced by the Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, Kelly O’Dwyer, last week, the “simple money manager” tools are designed to help “culturally and linguistically diverse” Australians with everyday budgeting.

They are available on this page of ASIC’s MoneySmart website, and are based on straightforward “money in” and “money out” concepts.

O’Dwyer said this group of taxpayers have been identified by the government as one of a number of priority audiences in its national financial literacy strategy.

The tool is available in English and has been translated into eight community languages, representing established communities (simplified and traditional Chinese, Italian, Arabic and Vietnamese) and recently arrived groups (Somali, Dari and Sudanese Arabic).  “The resource includes in-language audio, making it engaging and easily accessible,” O’Dwyer said.

She added that the government is committed to increasing financial literacy in the general community, and is working in partnership with multiple stakeholders, including business and industry, community and not-for-profit groups and the education sector to expand the reach and impact of financial guidance and support.

ASIC said that it consulted widely to ensure that the user experience was at the centre of the design and sought advice on the community languages chosen.
