The government contends that the black economy affects the whole community, provides unfair competition for honest businesses, and leads to the exploitation of more vulnerable workers. Black economy taskforce wants your input “It also increases the costs of providing government services because of people who don’t pay their share of tax. This issue needs a long term response from the whole of government, business and the broader community.”
A special taskforce has been formed to tackle the problems that arise from the black economy. To date over 40 consultations have been held with representatives from business and industry, community, academic and government sectors with many more consultations planned, including in regional and capital cities.
Join the conversation To help inform the recommendations for the taskforce’s final report (due in October 2017), the taskforce is interested in your ideas and comments. It has invited interested parties and individuals to make a submission or register to attend a public meeting (see table below for dates and venues).
Make a submission The taskforce invites all interested parties to make a submission on the interim report (read it here) which outlines its initial findings and recommendations. See details here about making a submission (submissions close 30 June 2017).
